Traditional Cumbia from Loopmasters is a tribute to Colombian cumbia. Originating from the Atlantic Coast of Colombia, cumbia blends African and Indigenous influences. Cumbia is widely considered the most representative musical style of Colombia and embodies the fusion of cultures, both African and Spanish.
Filled with a unique atmosphere, it has traditionally been danced in groups and remains deeply alive today. In modern times, it is present across many musical scenes, including urban spaces, where a growing number of young musicians gather for drum circles and spontaneous jam sessions rooted in traditional sounds.
The rhythm is driven by African drums arranged in a specific hierarchy, while the
melodies are carried by gaitas and flutes. Inspired by birdsong and crafted by skilled artisans from the region, these instruments give cumbia its unmistakable voice.
Local cumbia musicians inspired the return to the roots in the creation of these
sounds. The goal with this sample pack was not to recreate an industrialized version of cumbia or imitate the styles that developed in other Latin American countries. Instead, it focuses on the raw and ancestral essence of the tradition. The melancholic and magical sound of the gaitas and flutes creates melodies that are nearly impossible to replicate with other instruments, while drums, tambor alegre, and maracas provide the rhythmic foundation of the celebration. Spatial and rhythmic electric guitars add a modern touch, while synthesizer arrangements introduce new layers of depth. Colombian vocalists also joined the process, bringing a ceremonial energy through expressive voices and unforgettable hooks.
