Opolopo

1 review|see all

Opolopo is Yoruban for 'plenty', a word that exemplifies the diversity of this production wizard's musical voyage. Starting out with overdubbing on cassette decks with a Casio VL Tone toy keyboard in his early teens, to constructing soundscapes on synths, beat boxes and computers, Peter Major aka Opolopo is one of Scandinavia's most extraordinary producers. Equipped with keyboards, vocoder and modern technology Opolopo plays from London to Tokyo, as a one man band, with jazz ensemble Expansions, or with primary collaborator Amalia Miz Fuze Townsend. His music spans over a decade on labels such as JVC Japan, Om Records, Warner Brothers, Tokyo Dawn Records, Tru Thoughts, Sony/BMG, Swedish Brandy and Especial Records. Collaboration and remix highlights include the legendary Dazz Band, Grammy nominee Gregory Porter, Dudley Perkins, Colonel Red, Craig David, Mr. V, Lanu, Simon Grey, Mpho Skeef, Eska, Sacha Williamson and more. His bootleg remixes of Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and Erykah Badu also built a frenzy with soul music connoisseurs worldwide.

Great collection of samples from this rare little beast! Some nice juicy analogue fatness as well as harsh glitchiness that will sit well in many electro/electronic mixes. Nice to have the some of the samples run through additional analogue outboard gear as well as seeing the insides of the SP-12 for some added 12 bit grittiness.
